Presentation

The third international colloquium “Building inclusive societies in Latin America and the Caribbean: dialogues from Arts and Humanities”, is organized by two Costa Rican public universities, University of Costa Rica (UCR) and The State Distance University (UNED) in collaboration with research teams from three French universities, AMERIBER- Bordeaux Montaigne University, MICA- Bordeaux Montaigne University and 3L.AM-University of Angers and Le Mans University, aims to bring together, from a plural and interdisciplinary perspective, presentations by researchers from different disciplines related to Arts and Humanities, as well as work by professionals, institutional leaders and associations. This activity is a continuity of the international colloquia held in France, in Bordeaux (November 2022) and in Angers (May 2024).
This colloquium aims to study inclusive societies, which are considered a social and political defiance due to challenges generated by stereotypes, epistemic gaps and discourse´s biased handling around diversity in Latin America and the Caribbean. The ultimate intention behind the concept of inclusive society is to provide each person with the same opportunities on an equal basis to carry out an independent life project and participate in political, social, cultural, environmental and economic life. Thus, the main objective of this meeting is to discuss these challenges for Latin America and the Caribbean, regions historically characterized by manifestations of discrimination, exclusion, inequality, marginalization and invisibility of different groups.
